Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival

• Arrival is from 7:45 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
• School doors open at 7:45 a.m. There are no staff members on duty to supervise students prior to that time.
• Students arriving after 8:05 a.m. must be signed in by a parent/guardian at the main office.

Dismissal

• Dismissal is from 2:55-3:15 p.m. for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade and 2-2:15 p.m. for Pre-K.
• Any changes in transportation must be communicated to the main office no later than 2:30 p.m. (11:00 am for half day dismissal). 
• Students leaving early must be signed out in the main office prior to 2:30 p.m.
• Students will be dismissed in the following order: Fun Co., walkers/bikers, bus riders, car riders.
• Any students not picked up by 3:15 p.m. will remain in the building with a late duty staff member and must be signed out by a parent/guardian in the main office.
   

Arrival

• Walkers should remain on sidewalks and enter through the front doors.
• Bikes may utilize the upper driveway and unload on the sidewalk by the gym. 
• Bike racks are located at the front of the building on the left end of the porch.

Dismissal

• Walkers/bikers will be dismissed from the gym beginning at 2:55 p.m.
• Students will not be permitted to load into vehicles on Preston. These students are considered car riders, and parents will need to utilize the car rider line. 
• Any walkers/bikers not picked up by 3:05 p.m. will be taken back inside to be dismissed with car riders or picked up from the main office after the conclusion of the car line.  

Arrival

• Buses will follow car line arrival procedures. 
• Students will unload when instructed by staff and/or the bus driver.
• Buses can be tracked via the Versatrans MyStop app. 
• Bus stops/schedules are available on the MNPS Find My Bus Stop tool.

Dismissal

• Buses will utilize the lower parking lot during dismissal. 
• Students will be dismissed by bus route/color from the front doors and should walk down the stairs to their assigned bus when instructed by a staff member.

Arrival

• All car riders are encouraged to be dropped off in the upper driveway. 
  • Students may now exit vehicles on Preston. Unload in the driveway only.
  • The lower lot should only be used by older students who are able to exit their vehicle quickly and enter the building independently. This lane must move quickly to avoid blocking staff parking. Unloading will take place at the bottom of the steps one vehicle at a time. Please enter the car line from the south (Eastland); do not pass the car line from the North. Use caution when exiting. 
  • Please note the driveway entrance and exit are one way.
• Vehicles may approach from either direction on Preston and should form two lanes in the upper driveway as follows:
  • When vehicles are waiting to enter the driveway in both directions, those approaching from the north (Rosebank) should use the right lane, and vehicles approaching from the south (Eastland) should use the left lane.
  • If there are no vehicles waiting to turn into the driveway from the opposite direction, please pull into either lane until both lanes are full or as directed by staff.
  • Please do not block the entrance to the lower parking lot. 
• A staff member will signal when students may exit their vehicles once the driveway is full and all traffic has stopped.
• All children should exit on the passenger side of the vehicle, if possible. Parents/guardians are encouraged to remain in the vehicle except when assisting their child(ren). Please practice independence unloading during arrival.
• Once all children in the group have unloaded, a staff member will signal for all vehicles to proceed to the exit and the next group will be allowed to enter the driveway.
• At the exit, the right lane must turn right, and the left lane must turn left. Please use caution merging with other vehicles and exiting the driveway. Vehicles exiting the lower lot must yield to upper driveway traffic.

Dismissal

• All car riders should be picked up in the upper driveway. Please note the driveway entrance and exit are one way.
  • The lower lot is reserved for buses and may not be used during dismissal. 
• Vehicles may approach from either direction on Preston and should form two lanes in the upper driveway as follows:
  • When vehicles are waiting to enter the driveway in both directions, those approaching from the north (Rosebank) should use the right lane, and vehicles approaching from the south (Eastland) should use the left lane.
  • If there are no vehicles waiting to turn into the driveway from the opposite direction, please pull into either lane until both lanes are full or as directed by staff.
  • Please do not block the lower parking lot entrance, as this must remain accessible to buses. 
• A staff member will call student names for dismissal in order of vehicle arrival.
  • Please have a sign with your child(ren)’s full name(s) and classroom teacher visible in your window.
• Parents/guardians are encouraged to remain in the vehicle except when assisting their child. Please practice independence loading during dismissal.
• Once all children have loaded into their vehicles, a staff member will signal for all vehicles to proceed to the exit and the next group will be allowed to pull into the driveway.
• At the exit, the right lane must turn right, and the left lane must turn left. Please use caution merging with other vehicles and exiting the driveway. 

Where can I park?

Approved parking zones are on both sections of Mitchell Rd (north of school). Both sides of Mitchell are accessible by sidewalk/crosswalk, and do not require crossing the driveway or parking lot. Parking on Crescent Hill (south of school) is discouraged as this blocks access to the rear staff parking lot. Parking on Preston Dr is NOT allowed.

What is a “walker”? Can my child be dismissed with walkers?

A walker is a student that walks between home (or an approved parking zone) and school. You must designate your child(ren) as a walker at the beginning of the year, which gives the school permission to release your child to walk home. Parents may accompany their children or allow them to walk home (or to an approved parking zone) unescorted.

How long does the carline take?

Carline runs most efficiently when families follow procedures and staff directions. It typically takes about 10-15 minutes to get through the car line. In the afternoons, the car line is generally finished by 3:15-3:20.

Where should I park my bike to load/unload safely?

Bike loading/unloading zone is on the sidewalk/grass area by the gym or at the playground. Please use extreme caution when entering and exiting the driveway/parking lot.

What should I do if my child is being picked up in a different way than usual?

Please notify the school by calling the main office no later than 2:30 p.m.

Can my child ride the bus? How do I know if I’m on a bus route?

Buses are available for students zoned for Rosebank who live more than 1.25 miles from the school. Exceptions may be made where unsafe walking conditions exist. Bus stops/schedules are available on the MNPS website’s Find My Bus Stop tool.

Can we use the playground after school?

Yes! We encourage parents and students (with parent’s permission) to socialize at the playground after school. We ask that parents and students refrain from lingering at the gym after walkers are dismissed as this can interfere with carline.
